FRENCH NAVY
CARRIER LENT BY BRITAIN (Recd. 9.45 a.m.)' LONDON, Aug. 6. The Prime Minister, Mr. Attlee, accompanied by the First Sea Lord, Admiral Cunningham, officially handed over His Majesty’s 17,200-ton light fleet aircraft-carrier, Collossus to the French naval authorities at a ceremony at Portsmouth. The vessel has been loaned to France for five years. Mr. Attlee said: “I am sure we are all glad that with this vessel there will be an immediate opportunity for the French Navy to recreate and reconstruct its naval air arm.”
