UNIONS AS OWNERS
SUGGESTION IN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT • COAL BILL PASSED (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, Aug. 7. Some of the unions should buy coal mines and show what they could do with them, suggested Mr. White (Liberal) in the House of Representatives. The remark came near the end of a heated debate on the Coal Bill, which passed all stages just after midnight last night. The Bill provides for a board of three members yyith wide powers to control the production and distribution of coal, a tribunal to deal with disputes in the coal industry and the imposition ,of penalties for impeding the industry. The Government accepted no Opposition amendments.
