Village Swept by Tidal Wave
(Rec. Noon.) NEW YORK, Aug. 6. Eye-witness reports from Mantanzas say that following the severe, earthquake a tidal wave swept inland for a mile so swiftly that it caught a party fleeing in a motor-car. Only eight of the 300 houses of Mantanzas are standing. However, the residents were forewarned when the waters first receded much below the low tide mark, and took refuge in trees and other high places.
