KAYE’S COAL MINE
PAYMENT TO WIDOW OF VICTIM DISASTER RECALLED The disaster at Kaye and party’s co-operative coal mine on November 6, 1940, is recalled by the decision of the Runanga Borough Council last evening that action be taken to remit the sum of nearly £2OO to Mrs. Colpo, who is resident in Italy, and is the widow of Mr. Lindo Colpo, a victim of the disaster. The delay in making the payment from the district fund which was raised at the time of the disaster, was occasioned first by the lack of information as to the whereabouts of the widow, a/id secondly by the entry of Italy into the war. During the intervening period, the sum has been increased by Post Office interest and is expected to reach £2OO.
