WAIKATO PARISH

(P.A.) HAMILTON, August 5. The dispute between the parishioners of St. Aidan’s Parish, Claudelands, and the Bishop of Waikato (the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington) was taken a further step yesterday when Canon C. W. Turner, to vzhose appointment the parish vestry is opposed, was formally instituted by the Bishop in the presence of a small congregation, among whom only several were members of the parish. [ In order to prevent services being' conducted in the church this week-i end, the vestry caused the lock tc, be changed on the front door of the church during Ihe week. However, this lock was replaced and the wardens again put a new lock on. But I this in turn was again changed and., the door opened. On Friday, an advertisement appeared in the Waikato Times by the I order of the vestry stating that there j would be no worship in the church on Sunday and, while the advertise- j ment was repeated on Saturday, an-1 other announcement, prirffed over t’.ie ] name of Canon Turner, stated ’natl the ordinary services . would take 1 place. ' I The vicarage, which is held in trust; by the two wardens, has been let to the Civic Rehabilitation League and is occupied by a family. The vestry is to meet to consider the new development. ■, 1
