FIGHTING INFLATION
WORKS PLANS REDUCED IN AMERICA
(Rec. 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 5
The Reconversion Director, Mr. John Steelman, has ordered all Government agencies to cease awarding construction contracts for projects valued at over 3000 dollars until October 1.
The moratorium is designed to reduce the public works programme by 700,000,000 dollars to combat inflation. Exemptions include the Manhattan atom bomb project, overseas military projects, veterans’ hospitals and veterans’ housing.
