AUSTRALIA Serious Demonstration at Caulfield
MELBOURNE, Aug. 4. The worst demonstration in Melbourne racing for some time took place at Caulfield yesterday, when the favourite. Solvent, was beaten into third place by First Aid and Jocularity in the Australian Hurdle. The stipendary stewards, took some evidence in an inquiry into Solvent’s running and adjourned the inquiry until Monday. The winner ran the distance in record time. The New Zealand bred Glenfern had his fourth successive win in the Moondah Plate. The New Zealand jumper. Gay Fort did well to get a place in the Godfrey Watson Steeplechase. Results: —

Time 4.541. Moondah Plate, of £750; six furlongs.—First Division: Glenfern 7.10 (Richards) 1; Dual Gift 7.9 (Hutchinson) 2; Enthuse 8.1 (Badger) 3. Nineteen started. Two and a half lengths; half a length. Time, 1.44 L Godfrey Watson Steeplechase, of £750; about two miles and three furlongs.—Quixotic 10.11 (Hall) 1; Gay Fort 9.12 (N.Z.) (Haag) 2; Accelerate 9.7 (McCoy) 3. Seventeen started Half a length: eight lengths. Time, 4.261 —a course record.
