SALE OF SHIPS
AMERICA SELLS WAR-BUILT, VESSELS . . ■• . (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 8. The Maritime Commission has announced the sale of 143 war-built merchant ships for 88,000,000 dollars. France has bought 75 Liberty ships on 20-year terms. It is expected that France will apply to the sale the 17,500,000 dollars, compensation which the United States granted for the Normandie. - • • The Netherlands bought 45 ships, including 28 Liberty ships, Norway 14, and United States operators nine.
