295 Drowned in Lake Tragedy
(Rec. 11 a.m.) DAR-ES-SALAAM, Aug. 2. Only five were saved and 295 were drowned when a Lake Nyassa steamer, the Vitys, overturned and sank in a storm on July 31. Many of the passengers were travelling to Dar-es-Salaam to join in the Aga Khan’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
Dar-es-Salaam is the capital of Tanganyika Territory in British East Africa.
