Mr. J. ,Cox, of the Town Planning Office, Wellington, left Greymouth this morning on his return. Mr. I. K. Phillips, clerk, Railways Department, Christchurch, is on relieving duty at Greymouth. Mr. F. D. Win, of Greymouth, who has been serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. since 1940, will resume duties as a porter witn the Railways Department, Greymouth, on Monday. Mr. W. Longstaff, clerk, booking office, Railways Department, Groymouth, will leave next week on transfer to Rewanui, replacing Mr. A. H. White, who will leave on transfer following his marriage on Saturday next. Dr. O. H. Frankel, chief executive officer of the Wheat Research Institute, Christchurch, Mr J. D. Raeside, of the Soil Bureau, Timaru, and Dr. John Marwick, assistant-director of the Geological Survey, will represent the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at the annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand Society for the Advancement of Science at Adelaide this month.

The appointment of Mr S. V. Raines as Licensing Authority for the No. 3 and 4 Transport Districts has been gazetted. Other authorities appointed are:—No. 1, Mr E. J. Phelan; No. 2, Mr J. P. O. Mr. Vigers joined the department in Christchurch as a cadet, and spent most of his time in Canterbury. He was appointed business agent in 1941 and assistant traffic manager in 1944, and received his final appointment last year. Mr. S. R. Sexton has now been appointed assistant district traffic manager, while the new assistant traffic manager will be Mr. H. P. McIvor, at present transport officer, and Mr. W. A. Hardy, senior traffic running officer, will be the new transport officer.
