POWER AMALGAMATION
BOARDS MUST MAKE NEXT MOVE GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE An indication that no progress towards the amalgamation of the Grey and Westland Electric Power Boards, and consequently the extension of the Grey reticulation sysem to the area surrounding Hokitika and further south, can be made until the boards themselves decide to, act, has been given by the Minister of Works; Mr. R. Smeple, to the West Coast Farmers’ Co-operative Lime Company, which is vitally interested in securing power' for its Ross works. Acknowledging receipt ■of a letter from the company acquainting him with its difficulties due to lack of electric power', the Minister, under date of July 27, wrote to the company as follows: — “I understand that the necessary resolutions to' secure amalgamation have been passed by the Grey Electric Power Board and the Westland Power Board. You may be assured that anv action which may be taken by my Department in an endeavour to hasten completion of the amalgamation will be taken with as little delay as possible. “In the meantime, however, the next move must come from the power boards concerned.”
