HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD RATE STRUCK
At a special meeting ol the Hokitika Harbour Board held recently the annual rate was struck at 2d in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property in the borough of Hokitika, id in the £ on all rateable property in the borough of Ross, and gd in the £ on the remaining portion of the harbour district in the Westlana County, the rate being payable on we same date as the respective rates .-.Ox the borough of Hokitika and the County of Westland. Advice was received from the Minister of Marine that the Commissioner of Works would make a full report on the Hokitika harbour with a view to safegaurding the town against flood waters. FUNERAL. The funeral of Mother Mary Claver took place at the Hokitika Cemetery yesterday, following Solemn Requiem Mass, celebrated at St. Mary’s Church. The Most Rev. P. F. Lyons, Bishop of Christchurch, presided, assisted by the Rev. Father D. Lordan (Parish Priest of Sumner) and the Rev. Father' R. O’Gorman (Parish Priest of Wataroa). . T A The Right Rev. Monsignor J. A. Kennedy (Parish Priest of Beckenham) was also present in the sanctuary. The celebrant of the Mass was the Rev. Father J. Finerty of Hokitika; Deacon, the Rev. Father S. O’Brien (Kumara), sub-deacon, the Rev. Father D. Healy (Ross), and Master of Ceremonies the Rev. Father O’Sullivan (Hokitika). The choir of priests included the Very Rev. Father J. Long (Greymouth), the Rev. Dr. G. Harrison (Christchurch), the Rev. Fathers Foley (Runanga), Mahoney (Christchurch), Keane (Christchurch) and Flaherty (Greymouth). Many visiting Sisters of Mercy were present, while the Children of Mary Sodality and the pupils of the Convent Schools formed a guard of hon-' our.
