WESTLAND HOSPITAL PRAISED

The Westland Hospital was one of the best examples of a really good small hospital, said the medical superintendent of the Buller Hospital, in his monthly report to the board. He had been, particularly impressed by the entrance and administration block, the theatre blocky the children’s ward, and adequate number of side rooms to each ward, the patients’ lavatory and bathroom facilities," the staff quarters, the Nurses’ Home and the general care of the grounds and facilities for recreation of the nurses.

He' suggested that the Buller Hospital could do no better than model iaself along those lines, and put forward a ten year policy for the expansion and improvement of the hospital. He particularly stressed the question, of a new theatre block, which h'e said was a really urgent matter. Instead of spending money on alterations to the present theatre block, he suggested that it would be cheaper and more efficient to build a new theatre block.
