CAUGHT WITH PISTOL
ARREST OF NAVAL RATING
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 31. Acting on information from an officer on.the cruiser Black Prince, the police arrested a naval rating at a city hotel to-day. He was in civilian clothes and carrying a fullyloaded, cocked automatic pistol. The rating, Jack Parkington, aged 25, was charged this morning with possessing an unlawful weapon and also with illegal possession of a pistol, the property of the United States Government.
Questioned by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., Parkington denied that he had threatened to kill anyone.
Stating that Parkington would be dealt with on further charges on returning to his ship, the Magistrate convicted him on both counts, ordering that he be imprisoned until the court rose.
