The first d:iy of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting will be held at Wing’atui to-morrow. The fields are not as large as the nominations suggested, but wall still be of good size. The weather of late in the Dunedin district has been wet, and the track is certain to .be heavy. Final Trials al Wingatui (PA) DUNEDIN. May 30. Final gallops at Wingatui this morning were delayed as the result of a hard frost. • The course has dried out a Jot in the last few days, and although the going is sure to be soil on. Saturday, it wjll be better than was expected earlier in the week. Lance Wing was going better, than Mediate at the end of half a mile in 56sec. Lance Wing disappointed in his race at Washdyke, but he has worked well since. . Arnorlad and Martial Note finished together at the end of five furlongs in°l.lo, both horses handling the going well. Alamonde was much too good loi Minstrel Light over five furlongs in 1.12, time which Alamonde could have improved on considerably.

Paladeo put up one of the best sprints of the morning when he covered half a mile in 54£sec. Paladeo is not engaged on the first day, but will race later at the meeting. Lisheen (T. J. Boyle) was seen to advantage in a schooling task when he finished well clear of Sphere (Ellis) and King Canute (C. Low). King Canute fell at the last hurdle. Boloyna (A. Powell) and Court Dress (D. O’Neill) jumped two hurdles along the L back in good style. Olga’s Choice (R. Heasley) "eave a good display over four hurdles on'his own.

Siglow (S. Shaw) jumped three fences on the course proper, and was accompanied over the first, a sod wall, by Sergeant-Major (K. Wilson) Filieg (C. Low), and Shadow Boy (H. Shannon). They started at the top of the straight and, after jumping the brush fence, carried on to give clean displays over another three fences.

Bravura (S. Shaw), Page’s Raid (W. Barr), and Night Prince (A. McKerrow) were sent out to jump six fences, and were accompanied, over the first three by Bonnie Simper (T. Boyle). Night Prince got bumped going into the first fence and fell. He was" remounted and followed the other pair over the remainder of the course. None of them jumped well, however, all making mistakes.
