JUDGES CRITICISED

NEED FOR MEN LOYAL TO “THE PARTY” LABOUR MINISTER’S VIEWS ADELAIDE, May 29. Strong criticism of High Court judges was expressed by the Minister of Transport (Mr. E. J. Ward) at a meeting of unionists m the Trades Hall. He said that on a number of occasions the High Court had stood in the way of progress. Mr. Ward added that one judge was aged 83, and another 79, while the Chief Justice was about 70. They hoped that with the defeat of the Labour Government they could retire with every confidence about the appointment of their successors, but if they retired now their successors would be appointed by Labour. “It is of the utmost importance that Labour should have been in important positions who have shown their loyalty to the party,” said Mr. Ward. “We must be just as ruthless as the other side.”
