WESTPORT THREE BOOKMAKERS FINED
Three men were arrested in Westport yesterday and charged with offences against the gaming regulations. They appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before ■ Messrs J. C. Brown and G. Aitken, J.P’s. The prosecution stated that each accused had taken bets on race meetings in various parts of the country. The accused were convicted and fined as follows:—Ralph Hilary Hansby, billiard room proprietor, fined £5O; Francis Clune Higgins, radio dealer, fined £25; William James Clark, tobacconist, fined £l5. NEED FOR BUCKET DREDGE. • Advice was received at the monthly meeting of the Westport Harbour Advisory Committee that the recommendation that a new bucket dredge with self-propelled hoppers be obtained for use at Westport ha 4 been '.forwarded to the Minister of Marine. It was decided to ask the Marine Department to have the Greymouth Harbour Board’s bucket dredge Mawhera made available for use at Westport as soon as possible. In connection with representations for extra facilities for storing timber at the Westpqrt wharf, it was decided to draw the' Railways Department’s notice to the number of concrete piles on hand which might be suitable for any extension work which may be started. A motion was carried expressing deep concern at the continued delay by the Government in bringing out engineers from England to report on West Coast harbours. NATIONAL PARTY MEETING.

McDonald; committee, Messrs. A. Ferguson, K. Goodman, D. McLellan, W. Martin, S. Lowther, O. L. Nahr, H. Palmer, W. Rodgers, P. Roselli, and A. Vincent.
