Russians Attack American Plane
(Rec. 10 a.m.) VIENNA, April 22.
The pilot of a United States Army transport plane stated that four Russian fighters fired several shots against his plane as he approached the American Army airport outside Vienna, although the plane was within the 10-mile area around the airport prescribed for American planes by the Russians.
The pilot added that the fighters followed him to the field, and left only after he landed. A United States Army spokesman stated that General Clark, commander of the United States forces in Austria, was officially protesting to the Russian authorities against the attack. • Senator Bridges (Republican, New Hampshire), telling the Senate that irresponsible attacks by Russian planes on American aircraft must cease, called on the Government to take action on the latest incident in which an American transport, flying near Vienna, was attacked and fired upon by four Russian fighters.
