BOMBING A MINE
SCHEME TO QUELL FIRE
(Rec. 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 23. As the result of protests by local residents, the possibility of bombing and burning the colliery at Cessnock will be discussed at a conference this morning. The Mayor of Cessnock told the Minister of Air, Mr: Drakeford, that residents were very concerned about the possibility of damage being done to property by bombing. Miners are of the opinion that the fire might continue for six months unless smothered by the bombing. Already newsreel photographers are gathering to record the event from" a commanding ridge west of the mine.
