PLAYGROUND SCHEME
FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN OF BLAKETOWN WORK BY RESIDENTS The Advance Blaketown League has commenced work on the formation of a children’s playing area in the suburb. The completion of this project will place Blaketown in the position of being one of the first of the suburbs to take a practical step towards remedying the lack of recreation areas in the district. The area which is in Reid street next to the newly-opened bowling green, is recently reclaimed land. It was two chains long by 1| chains wide, and had previously been levelled by the Greymouth Borough Council. A start has now been made by Blaketown residents on the top-dress-ing of the site. Grass will be planted and rail and post fences will be erected. Work is continuing each weekend and it is expected that this stage will be completed shortly. Following the initial stages, the provision of play facilities for the children will be undertaken. These will include eight swings, a slide, sand pits, see-saws, and a round-about. There will also be a paddling pool, 20ft. by 14 ft. in area. An attractive design has been chosen for the park.
