FOOD FOR OVERSEAS

“SAVE COUPONS; AVOID waste” ■; NEW ZEALANDCAMPAIGN (p.a.) Wellington. Mar 21. “There is no reason why the whole community should not swing into action at once on two positive contributions to the campaign: firstly, avoidance of all waste of food, and secondly, saving of coupons,” said Mr. T. N. Smallwood, chairman of the Famine Emergency Committee in a statement to-day. “I regard to the latter point, coupon collection and recording cards were in course of preparation for every household, together with recording sheets for any approved collecting agency, but, in the meantime, coupon holders able and willing to surrender meat and butter coupons should cancel and hold them, pending receipt of recording cards.” Hitherto, an invitation has been made to forward unused coupons to district rationing offices, he added. This could still be done, but the committee wished to obtain details and records of saving on a postal district basis, and arrangements were in train for this to be done at the most convenient post office for the saver. ■ “An undertaking has been given by the Government,” concluded .Mr. Smallwood, “that every meat and butter coupon saved will release an equivalent amount for shipment, overseas and the committee will publish the results from time to time.”
