NOXIOUS WEEDS
MOVE TO TACKLE PROBLEM
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 21. A serious problem in New Zealand for the last 40 years, the. control_ of noxious weeds, is now being considered in all its aspects by a committee set up by the Director-General of Agriculture, local bodies, and farmers’ organisations. One proposal which the committee will, no doubt, consider, was recently made to the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Roberts, by the Dominion Council of Federated Farmers. It is that a new section of the Department of Agriculture be established to deal specifically with weed control. An officer of the department stated that the Soil Fertility Research Station at Hamilton, which was now carrying out experiments with new weed killers, included hormone solutions, which attacked the roots. The results were encouraging, but the work was delayed by difficulty in .'securing adequate supplies of materials. •_ .
