STEEL ROD THROUGH HEAD
MAN “DOING WELL.” LONDON, September 22. Arthur Henry Shelford, 50, of Carson Road, Canning Town, who walked from an ambulance into Poplar Hospital yesterday, with a steel rod 13 inches long and half an inch thick, transfixed through his head, is making a good recovery 7. Pointed at each end, the rod protruded just below his left eye and behind his right ear. In the operating theatre Shelford sat up on the table and signed his willingness to undergo an operation. The rod was withdrawn without injuring the brain or eye. Penicillin treatment was given. Shelford was working at a Silvertown factory on a special machine making these bars under very 7 high pressure. Something went wrong, and when he bent his head to investigate the rod suddenly shot out with tremendous force.
