N.Z.E.F. AWARDS.
WELLINGTON, December 7. The following awards to members of the Second N.Z.E.F. in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in the field are announced: — Member of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire (M.8.E.): Captain John F. W. Tonge, Wellington, ' Military Cross: Captain (now Major) Edgar K. Tomlinson, Nelson. Military Medal: Corporal Eric Mills, Pukekohe; Corporal Bruce Murcott, Mangapaehi; Private Alfred N. Carroll, Wairoa; Private Edward A. Goodhew, Queensland; Private Willis E. Gundry, Hokianga; Private William J. Pirimona, Auckland; Private Robert H. Stevenson,- Frankton; Private James M. Walker, Auckland. All the recipients except Tomlinson and Goodhew (who were discharged in Australia) have now returned to New Zealand. D.F.C.’S BESTOWED. WELLINGTON, December 7. A further nineteen Distinguished Flying Crosses have been awarded to New Zealand airmen for outstanding service on air operations overseas. The recipients are:— Flight-Lieutenants John Hetrick Higgins, Christchurch; Trevor Winston Peek, Christchurch; William John Simpson, Te Awamutu; Nelson Hugh Bawden, Hastings; Leonard Claude Baines,’ Marton; Acting-Flight-Lieutenants Beryck Phillip Dalcom, Australia; John Trevor McGreal (killed on active, service), Auckland; Flying-Officers Thomas McKenzie Austin, Te Aroha; Malcolm Albert Peterson, Lower Hutt; Harry Alexander Ramsey, Auckland; Robert George Webster, Australia; Graham Arthur Avery, Blenheim; Laurence Edward Dovery, Wellington; Robert George Evans, Hastings; Herbert Wilfred Hooper, Manaia; Allan Johnson Mayfield, Pakakaio; Lindsay Francis Robinson, Morrinsville: Norman Alexander Wickes, Kumara; Pilot Officer Keith Burnett Fitton, Cambridge.
