■Trooper L. M. Pamment and Mrs. J. Pamment, Kumara, returned last evening from a holiday tour of the North Island.

A London cablegram announced the death of Arthur Conquest, actor, and youngest and last surviving son of George Conquest, aged 70, ending a family association with the stage which had lasted for 200 years.

A cablegram from- London states that the King knighted Mr. F. G. Burrows, ex-railwayman, on his appointment as Governor-General of Bengal. Mr. Burrows and his wife afterwards lunched with their Majesties.

A Hobart cablegram announced the death of Mr. Dwyer Gray, after a short illness. He was the State Jieasuier of Tasmania. He was 75 years of age. He also was active in journalism. He was the editor of the weekly Labour paper “The Voice,”, and was a member of the Australian Journalists Association. He had been a Labour Member of the House for 1 1 years, and was Treasurer for the past 11 years.

A London cablegram states that Lady Rutherford, widow of Lord Rutherford, sails for New Zealand in Shaw Savill’s Themistocles on December 10. from Liverpool. Also aboard will be General Sir William Dobbie, famous for, the defence of Malta, and Lady Dobbie. Lady Rutherford intends to stay with her brother, Dr. Newton, in Christchurch. She was last in New Zealand in 1939 and spent the first eight months of the war in the Dominion before returning to England. She intends to spend a similar period on this occasion. The Themistocles is carrying 140 passengers.
