Sgt. P. D. Clancy, N.Z.E.F., for- * merly of Greymouth, has returned to New Zealand after service overseas. He is visiting Auckland.
Mr. J. B. Sutton, Postmaster,'Jackson Bay, will leave on Saturday on transfer to the P. and T. Department’s radio station at Wellington.
A Washington, cablegram stated that Mr Truman has nominated Brigadier-General Kenneth Royall as Under-Secretary of War.
Mr. W. M. Stewart, Principal of the Greymouth Technical- High School, is on extended sick leave. In his absence, Mr. G. M. Mitchell is acting-Principal.
Miss K. W. Williams, who. recently resigned her position as a commercial mistress at the Greymouth Technical High School, was farewelled by members of the staff and. was presented with a framed etching and a set of pyrex ware.
A London cablegram stated that Vice-Admiral Sir Neville Syfret, had been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet, in succession to Admiral Sir Henry Moore, who has been appointed head of the British Admiralty delegation at Washington. The funeral took place this afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery, of the late Mr William Desmond Coppersmith, and there was a large attendance of friends and relations. The services at the residence of Mr H. Griffiths, Leonard Street, and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. T ,G. Campbell. . Thynne (Dunedin), Mr. and Mrs. W. Murray (Southland). A London cablegram states that a memorial service was held at the Fernleaf Club, London, for Misses M. Greenfield, M. F. I. Innes and M. J. Mortlock members of the N.Z.W.A.A.C. who lost their lives when an aircraft en route from Cairo to England crashed in France on October 7. The service was conducted by Major S. C. Read, formerly N.Z.E.F. chaplain, now Commissioner in the United Kingdom for the National Patriotic Fund Board. Lady Freyberg and Brigadier R. S. Park commanding N.Z.E.F. United Kingdom, and New Zealand W.A.A.C’s. were present at the ceremony.
