LOSS ON SYDNEY BRIDGE

DEFICIT OVER £500,000 The accumulated deficiency on the operation of the Sydney Harbour Bridge amounted to £517,761 at June 30 last, reports the “Sydnuey Morning Herald.” The Auditor-General, Mr E. H. Swift, in his annual report, states that the deficiency in each of the past four years was attributable to the decline in road tolls, the revenue from this source in 1944-45 being £1.33,392 less than 1939-40. In 1944-45 the railways carried 23,681,250 people over the bridge and 23,165,437 travelled by trams and buses. Because of the variation of about a penny in the respective unit contributions, the return from tram and bus services was £93,852 less than that from the railways.
