INANGAHUA
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT/] REEFTON, October '4. The adjourned monthly meeting of the - Inangahua County Council was continued yesterday, Cr. C. Coxall i presiding. Present: Crs. Topp, Williams, Archer, Bell, Blackadder and Coghlan. The report of the Health Inspector was dealt with. —It was resolved that the Inspector be empowered to enforce strictly the by-laws concerning the erection of a dwelling at Waiuta. The Traffic Inspector sought to deal with leaking taps.—lt was resolved that the owners of water taps which are. leaking be given seven days’ notice to have these attended to, and failing this the water to be cut off. The Chairman reported on a meeting held with the district coal mine inspectors concerning the cleaning of the Reef ton reservoirs. —lt was decided to charge the cost of cleaning to the coal mine company responsible for the pollution of the water race. The Main Highways Board wrote that the Council could purchase a power road grader, the -purchase to be financed by the Board on a 10 per cent, deposit and payments over a four-yearly period. Cr. Archer moved and Cr. Williams seconded that the Council place an order for the purchase of a grader. -—Carried. The Chairman presented a report on his attendance at the recent Counties’ Conference. A report on the meeting of the Northern League of Local Bodies was also presented by the Chairman. Cr. Archer also reported on the conference. The Chairman and Cr. Archer were thanked for their reports. Cr. Coghlan moved and the Chairman seconded that the county representatives at the next meeting of the Regional Council press for support for a proposal to have a railway line built up the Waitahu Valley to tap coal and timber resources. —Carried. A quotation for the dismantling of a house at Maruia and rebuilding for the County Clerk, from Mr. R. Yellowlees at £12.12, was submitted by the Chairman. —Accepted. Cr. Biackadder asked that attention be given to Boundary Road. It was resolved that attention be given I to Thompson’s Road and to the | clearing of Mai Mai Creek. The sum of £3O is to be paid into 'the Chairman’s Relief Fund. The Chairman reported the receipt of £5O for this fund. A quotation is to be obtained for a mowing machine for the cutting of grass on streets and sports areas. At the close of the meeting the Council left to inspect river erosion at Cronadun, and to meet farmers m the area with a view to forming a scheme for protection of the farms.
