REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, Sept. 17. The Minister of Rehabilitation, today, left on return to Wellington. On Friday night, Mrs. Skinner and the Minister attended the annual ball of the Reefton Labour Party. Several deputations were received during the week-end by the Minister, who today spent .some hours looking over a number of mining projects in the Reefton area. On Sunday night the Minister spoke to a large audience at a public meeting at the Criterion Theatre. Reduced tonnage produced at the Burkes Creek Colliery, Reefton due to a machinery break-down last week brought the week’s coal production for the Reefton coal field down to the lowest figure for some months, and only 2300 tons were railed from Reefton Railway station for the week. Mr. R. G. Lawn left to-day for Canterbury on annual leave from the Forestry Department.

Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Morgan have returned from Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. T. Newman (Christchurch) are visiting Reefton. Playing at Reefton on Saturday afternoon under wet conditions, a visiting team from Sefton (Canterbury) were beaten by an Inangahua Rugby football team, by 9 to 6. The visitors were entertained in the evening at a dance given by Ihe Inangahua ■ Rugby sub-union. - A step towards the preclion of a Hospital .nurses’ home and laundry has been taken. The Inangahua Hospital Board has received advice that the necessary permit has been granted by the Building Controller to proceed with the buildings. Concrete construction as far as practicable is to be used.
