LATEST SERVICES LISTS > WELLINGTON, September 17. The latest available information regarding New Zealand prisoners of war was released by the Minister of Defence, to-day. Army: Returned to New Zealand 5203, en route 521, still in the United Kingdom 744, .still unaccounted for 13. Figures for the Navy are: Returned to New Zealand from European theatre nine, still to be returned one (at present en route). Returned from Japanese theatre one, still to be returned 43. No naval prisoners of war are unaccounted for in the European theatre, but there are 37 in the Japanese theatre. In addition,. 48 R.N.Z.N. personnel have been posted as missing in operations against Japan, but it is hoped that many of these will be found in prisoner of war camps or in hiding, though no information at all has been .received concerning them since they were posted missing. Air Force: Returned to New Zealand from European theatre 198, still to be returned 295. Returned from the Japanese theatre nil. Still to be returned eight, in the R.N.Z.A.F., two in the R.A.F., unaccounted for 19 in the R.N.Z.A.F. and 13 in the R.A.F. The Minister is hopeful that further information concerning prisoners of war in the eastern zone will come to hand in the near future, and next of kin will be advised immediately of any particulars received.
