[om: own cojuiKSi’ONOEN'r.j REEFTON, September 12. Rev. C. R. Sprocket! presided at the annual meeting of subscribers of the Rcel'ton Library. There was a poor attendance. The secretary (Mr J. Braidwood) presented the annual report. This showed a slight, increase in. membership. The Country Library Service van was now visiting Reefton twice yearly, wheh 150 books were provided on each visit. The balancesheet showed a small credit. The principal receipts were County subsidy £3O; subscriptions £22/14/6. The Country Library Service cost £9. and £4O/15/- was expended ,on magazines and newspapers. The following were elected as officers: — Chairman, Rev. C. R. Sprackett; sec-retary-treasurer, Mr J. Braidwood: council: Mesdames C. Buist, J. Latham, Miss Bell, Messrs W. Porter, A. Vogt, A. Stanley C. Coxall. The following recommendations _ wore macle to the incoming 'council: That steps be taken to stop the pilfering of magazines and papers from the Library Heading Room. That a drive hfe made lor increased membership, and that a popular reading section bo set aside in the hook room. It was decided to form a working bee to carry out the latter suggestion. The Rcel'ton W.E.A. are to be asked to cooperate in helping to improve the Library. An endeavour is to be made to have books from the Country Library Service changed each three months instead of bi-annually. Mr Reichenbach, the newly appointed postmaster, has commenced duty. Mr A. F. Wells, who has been transferred to Temuka as postmaster, left, to-day, for his now office. He was accompanied by Mrs Wells and family.
