ADDINGTON MARKET

CATTLE AND SHEEP EASIER. An easing in some sections compared with recent. sales was shown at yesterday’s Addington stock market, particularly in the fat cattle, there being somewhat of an oversupply. Fat sheep met with an easing of 7/- a head, but revived later. The store sheep sale was disappointing and most sheep were difficult to sell. Hoggets specially met with a dragging sale * and prices dropped by 2/- a head. Ewes with lambs at foot also showed a drop of 1/6 a head. A pen of 72 ewe hoggets made 38/-, one ol 70 made 37/6, and another of 69 sold for 35/6. Other good ewe hoggets sold at from 28/6 to 32/-, medium from 26/2 to 27/6. The best wether hoggets made from 25/4 to 26/9, medium 23/6 to 24/9, and light to 21/-. Several pens of breeding ewes were passed in, one pen of two-tooths at 37/-, and two pens of six and eighttooths at 33/6. One pen of 64. halfbred ewes in lamb to Cornedale rams sold for 19/-. A pen of 80 ewes with 82 lambs sold for 14/1, all counted, and another of 37 ewes and 38 lambs at 13/3. while a pen of 40 low-conditioned owes with 40 lambs realised 6/-, all counted.

The fat hogget sale included some | extra prime sheep, which realised ! top prices, but there was a genera! ! slackening in demand. Values were: i Extra prime hoggets, 51/7 to 61/1; > prime hoggets, 39/1 to 43/7; medium- , weight hoggets, 25/7 to 30/7; light ] and unfinished, to 24/1. There were I only 11 Spring lambs forward, seven j from Wilson Bros. (Halkett) bringing from 40/1 to 54/1; others from I 30/1 to 33/1. There was an entry in the fat sheep section of 4500 as against 3000 last week, and this caused a fall in prices as against those extreme prices of last sale. This was more pronounced in medium sheep than those of good quality. Though values receded by 2/- to 3/-, values were still abnormally high. During the early stages a drop to 6/- to 10/-

took place, but the values recovered towards the end of the sale. Values were: Extra prime wethers, to 77/1. Prime wethers, 66/4 to 71/1. Prune) medium-weight wethers. 46/- to 53/-. Light wethers, to 40/-. Extra prime aged ewes, to 56/7. Prime ewes. 44/1 to 58/4; medium ewes. 30/- to 35/-. Light ewes, 22/- to 26/-. The entry in the fat cattle section showed little change, being as heavy as those of recent weeks, and the yarding could not be- absorbed. There was a fairly sharp drop m prices, being 30/- a head and then £2 a head, but this price was revived somewhat. Values were: Extra prime steers, £24 to £27/12/6. Prime steers, to £2l to £23. Primo medium-weight steers, £l7 to £2O. Ordinary steers, to £l4/10/-. Extra prime heifers, to £l9/17/6. Primo heifers, £l4 to £l6. Medium heifers, £ll/10/- to £l3/5/-. Extra prime cows, to £lB/17/6. 'Prime

cows, £ 11/5/- to £l3/5/-. Medium cows, £9/10/- to £ll. The entry in the vcaler section was small, but the sale was sound on the good rates of the last few sales. Values were: Large vealcrs, £7 18/6 to £lO/18/6. Medium, £5/1/6 to £7/16/-. Best suckers, £6/3/6 to £B/3/6. Others, £4/18/6 to £6 1/-. Large calves, 54/- to 78/-. Medium, 33/- to 52/-. Small, and rough, 15/- to 31/-. ■ A collection of cows of low condition and mostly aged comprised the store cattle section, and the sale created little interest, sales of cows being made according to condition. Very few good cows were offered in the dairy cattle yarding, but these sold at 30/- a head lower than recent rates, while other sorts were 10/lower again. Best second, third and fourth calvers made from £ll/10/to £l5, one Friesian cross selling at £l7, good average sorts £B/10/- to£ll, low-conditioned and unattractive £5/5/- to £B/5/-. Heifers were forward in small numbers. No outstanding sorts were offered, most being on the small sale. The best made from £ll to £l4/10/-, me-1 dium to good £9 to £ 10/10/-, others £7 to £B/15/-. There was good competition for the small entry of porkers in the fat pig sale, and values for choppers improved by 20/- to 30/- a head. Baconers, however, showed an early drop of 5/ -to 6/- a head, but recovered later. Values were: Light porkers, 58/6 to £3/4/6; medium, £37/6 to £3/14/6; heavy, £3/17/6 to £4/8/6. Choppers, £B/18/6 to | £l7/18/6. Light baconers, £4/12/6 to £4/19/6; medium, £5/2/6 to £5 14/6; heavy, £5/17/6 to £6/4/6; extra heavy, £6/9/6 to ,£7/9/6; average price per lb, 9d. to 9Ad. Very few large stores were offered in the store pig section, and values changed little except towards the end, when there was an easing of 3/- to 4/- a head. Values were: Small weaners, 26/- to 32/-; best, 35/- to 40/-. Slips, 41/- to 44/-. Small stores, 45/- to 48/-; medium, 49/- to 54/-; large, 55/- to 58/-.
