The . funeral of Mrs. Ellen Amelia Bond took place this afternoon at Karoro Cemetery. Rev. T. G. Campbell conducted the services..

Mr. J. M. Macaulay, manager of the National Bank of N.Z. Ltd., Greymouth, will leave next week on transfer to the position of manager of the Oamaru branch. He will be replaced at Greymouth by Mr. A. M. Walters, present manager of the branch at Hokitika.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Christopher Courtney, who has been a member of the Air Council for Supply and Organisation since January 1940, will relinquish th-e post in September, and will shortly afterward retire from the R.A.F. He will be succeeded by Air Marshal Sir Leslie Hollinghurst, Air Officer Commanding the Base Air Forces South-east Asia.—B.O.W.

The death occurred this morning at Christchurch of Mr. Charles Curtis, of Christchurch. He was vice-presi-dent of the Canterbury Automobile Association, and a former president. He was Christchurch manager for the Westport Coal Company and for many years was stationed at Westport.

The death occurred at the Nelson Hospital on Sunday of Mr. J. T. W. /Walter) Newton, a former Conciliation Commissioner and later permanent head of the Labour Department. He had been in failing health for some months. Mr. Newton, who was 77 years of age, was born in Leicester, England, and came to New Zealand as a young man.

The death occurred yesterday at Cronadun of Mrs. Caroline G-ertrude Calder, widow of Mr. William Calder, ->f Cobden, aged 63 years. She was born at Invercargill and resided for some year.s at Athol, but for the past •12 years had lived on the West Coast. She was a worker in the Church of England. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cohen (Cronadun) and Mrs. Crighton (Cobden) and one son, Oscar (Cobden). The funeral will take place at Karoro to-morrow.

The death occurred to-day at Nelson Creek of Mrs. Susan Myers, wife of Mr. Henry Myers, aged 72 years. She was born in Australia but had lived at Nelson Creek for the past 42 years. She is survived by her husband, four sons. Ted and Frank (Ngahere) and William and Eric (Nelson Creek), and two daughters, Mrs. Burr (Blaketown) and Mrs. Walker (Nelson Creek); also four grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
