From Hawke’s Bay: Khurja is reported to be standing up to his work satisfactorily, with the National Steeples in view. Da Vinci will definitely be ridden in the Winter Cup by W. J. Broughton. Australian Pacer: The five-year-old Australian pacer, Admiral Nelson, has been purchased by an Invercargill sportsman, and after doing a light season at the stud in Southland will be sent to Canterbury to be trained. ' Desert Strife Retired: The Chokebore filly, Desert Strife (Bulandshar —Rivalry), which did not fulfil her early promise, has been put out of training and will join the Stonyhurst Stud. Her place in the stable has been filled by a yearling colt by Wild Chase from Good Sight, by Winning Hit from Equipment. English Colt: An English colt, purchased as a yearling for the Te Awamutu sportsman, Mr. M. H. Tims, has arrived in the Dominion. He will be raced, but will eventually go to the stud. His third dam is a sister to Mr. •Standfast, which was imported by Mr. Tims, and stood at his stud at Te Awamutu for some . seasons before being sold to Queensland. TRAINING AT GREYMOUTH. C. S. DONALD’S BIG TEAM. Fourteen horses trained by C. S. Donald arrived at Greymouth this morning, in charge of R. Donald, and the horses will be prepared for coming meetings, including the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s August, fixture, at Victoria Park. Donald’s training tracks at. Belfast arc unfit for use because of the effect of the recent snow falls in Canterbury, and for the same reason there is a general lack of training facilities in Canterbury. The horses Donald has brought to Greymouth are: Air Marshal, Maleesh, Distributor, Lee Berry, Indian Arrow, Steel King, Jack Daly, Characteristic, Loyal Chief. Parrish Lad, Nightbeam, Lanaco, Hazard Queen, and Rangefinder. They were exercised at Victoria Park this morning. The Victoria’ Park track is in splendid order and there will be ample opportunity for Donald to tune his horses up in readiness for their engagements. It will be recalled that several seasons ago L. A. Maidens trained his team, including Peter Smith and Jesse Owens, at Greymouth for the National meeting.
