GREYMOUTH READING ROOM
[to the editor.! Sir, —There is a lot of adverse comment among readers who. frequent the, newspaper reading room at the Greymouth Library, and I would like to affirm their disapproval at the “new” appointments. This is the third occasion if I remember, that the reading room has been, pitshed about, originally from most comfortable quarters to the now most unpleasant conditions. It was a treat one time to go for a little relaxation and reading to the room provided, but to-day you have got to elbow your way in to get at the papers, and if unlucky turn away in disgust. The one small desk and the few tables now provided for readers are totally inadequate and unsuitable, although, the papers now offering have been reduced by about one-third. I would like to know who was responsible for these alterations, and if the general opinion of readers counts for anything, they have made a sorry mess of the job. I trust that some reasonable improvements will be made, better still, revert to the old room, just vacated, and display the papers as hitherto. —Yours, etc.,, READER.
