AYR SHIRE "CATTLE SALE. WELLINGTON, July 21. The annual sale of Mr. J. G. Donald’s Ardgowan Ayrshires at Tauherenikau Was marked by record prices. When Ardgowan Magnificent was knocked down at 550 guineas to James and J. C. Fletcher, Alton Lodge, Te Kauwhata, a record price was established for the Southern Hemisphere for an animal of the Ayrshire breed and also a record for a New Zealandbred dairy bull. Ardgowan Magnificent is by Mr. Donald’s latest imported bull Lessnessock Twinkle, while his dam is a notable daughter of a previous importation, Harleyholm Topsman. The whole catalogue of 46 head, none of which had yet reached two years of age, made the remarkable average of 125 guineas, a record for the Dominion for all breeds, as was the average of 166| guineas for the 21 yearling bulls sold. The sale total this year was 5145 guineas, as against 4170 guineas last year, when an equal number were sold.
