Two debates were held at the weekly meeting of the Runanga Debating' Club last evening. The first “That courtesy costs nothing,” was debated by Messrs W. Downes and S. Braithwaite (affirm.) and R. McDonald and H. Webb (neg.). The second “That money is the root of all evil” was debated by Messrs A. Keown and L. O’Loughlin (affirm.) and Ron. McTaggart and Robt. McTaggart. A test in synonyms, a list of twenty words, was conducted by the leader (Mr. W. Wick) who also gave criticisms of the debates. A new member was elected.
