MUNICIPAL BAND

ANNUAL MEETING.

Mr. H. Leach presided over an attendance of over 30 bandsmen and supporters at the annual meeting of the Greymouth Municipal Band at Herb Moore’s last evening. The annual report, as already published in the “Star,” and. the balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £222, were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. F. A. Kitchingham (reelected); president. Mr. F. F. Boustridge (re-elected); vice-presidents, all Borough Councillors and members of other Greymouth local bodies, and Messrs Kins, Russell, Dowell, McKechnie, Mundy, Breeze, Swetnam, Wilson, Cox, W. F. Harley, Mrs. Steel and Mrs. Bradshaw; conductor, Mr. L. Hall; bandmaster, Mr. V. Baxter; secretary, Mr. J. Henderson (re-elected); assistant-secre-tary and treasurer, Mr. H. Anderson; librarian, Mr. A. Cornell (re-elect-ed); auditor, Mr. F. H. Denton (reelected); drum major, Staff Sgt. S. Gurden; official accompanist, Mrs. T. Best. The election of the committee was held over until the next meeting. Mr. T. Anderson, who did not seek re-nomination for the post of conductor, because of business reasons, was accorded a vote of thanks and appreciation for his services as conductor.

Following the meeting the annual banquet was neld, Staff Sgt. Gurden presiding over an attendance of about 60 bandsmen and. their friends. The following toast list was honoured: “The King” (proposed by the Chairman); “Bandsmen in the Forces and Overseas” (proposed by Mr. J. Contessa and responded to by the Chairman); “Greymouth Borough Council” (Mr. H. E. Anderson —Mr. A. Dalziel); “The Ladies” (Mr. V. Baxter—Mrs. T. Anderson); “Conductor and Officers of the Band” (Mr. M. Best —Mr. T. Anderson); “Visitors and Supporters” (Mr. H. Leach—Mr. W. Tones); “The Press” (Mr. D. Lynam—Mr. T. Lynam). Items were contributed by Messrs T. Hatch, M. Best, W. Tones. J. Boucher, I. Emmerson and Miss V. Henderson. A dance programme followed the toast list.
