HETURN TO NEW ZEALAND

WELLINGTON, March 23. In 1922, a New Zealand lad of 16 applied to join the Air Force, and was told there was none in the Dominion in which he could enrol, but that the R.A.F. took boy mechanics. So the lad kept writing, and in 1925 he went to England at his own expense, joined the R.A.F., qualified as a nilot, and was commissioned. Now he has returned to New Zealand—Air Commodore E- G. Olson D. 5.0., with more than 4000, flying hours to his credit, the honour of having commanded the famous No. 75 (New Zealand) Bomber Squadron when it was conducting a heavy offensive against the Ruhr, and the distinction of having held the apnointment of air officer commanding R N.Z.A.F. headquarters, London, till relinquishing this position recently on the grounds of ill-health
