since he first appeared as an apprentice in 1921. The champion has set up another record this year by riding 88 winners—l 7 more than Harry Wragg’s previous war-time best in 1941. I regard this latest achievement as one of the most notable in Gordon’s wonderful career (said “Hotspur” in the “Daily Telegraph” last month). Though racing has been severely rationed, his total is only seven short of the 95 successes which brought Weston the jockeys’ championship in a full season 18 years ago." Gordon, now 40 years old, has never ridden with more sustained dash and resolution than in the season just ended. His principal triumphs have been gained in the colours of the Aga Khan, who with £13,980 in stakes from 23 races is the leading owner for the first time since 1937, when he won £30,655. In the early war years the A.ga Khan practically retired from English racing and at one stage had only four horses in training at Newmarket Now his stable is again one of the most powerful in the country and his vast breeding interests are second only to those of Lord Derby. The Aga Khan owns the champion three-year-old of 1944 in Tehran, narrowly beaten by Ocean Swell in the Derby and later a most convincing winner of the St. Leger. All the racing world is looking forward to the first clash between Tehran and Sir Hugo CuniffeOwen’s “resuscitated” Rockeiexla next year. Turf honours for the season are:— Leading Owner.: The Aga Khan (23 races), £13,980. Leading Trainer: Frank Butters (34 races), £17,077. Champion Jockey: Gordon Richards, 88 winners.
