TENNIS ■ The Cobden Tennis Club opened its | season on Saturday, when Mr E. Gilmour declared the courts open. A “Yankee tournament was conducted, the winners being Messrs I. Burn and Huffadine. Mrs G. Todd and L. McNeill were the runners-up. GOLF The mid-monthly medal match ; nlaved on Saturday was won by Mrs. I K. ’McCarthy 95—18—77.' Tn the final of the Omoto Cup, Mrs. J. W. Hannan defeated Mrs. S. Davis 3 and 2.
! RUGBY FOOTBALL LONDON, Nov. 5. : In a Rugby Union football match South Wales beat a New Zealand services’ team by 34 to 14. The New Zealanders appeared to be slightly the better team in the first half, but, after ihe interval, South Wales outplayed them. Flying Officer E. Grant I was the most prominent New Zeai land back, although Pilot Officer., J. |L. Grayburn often opened up attacks ; and Flying Officer’ J. H. MacDonald I rarely made mistakes at full-back. On both sides the forwards were excellent, Flying Officer R. W. Chrisp and Warrant Officer A. T. Kofoed being always in the thick of the fray.
