FRIENDLY GAMES AT GREYM’TH

The West Coast Cricket Association’s new season was officially, opened at the Recreation Ground, Greymouth, yesterday, by the President, Mr. W. Meates. Two friendly matches were played. United and Cobden being successful. The wickets were slow.

' Marist Old Boys batted first in their match with United, and were dismissed for 62 runs, none of the batsmen reaching double figures. G. Sansom with six wickets for 11 runs, including the first “hat trick’’ of the season, was the most successful United bowler, and Westwood and Lawson each took two wickets. United scored 78 runs, H. Westwood 39 retired and W. Tindale 15 being the most successful United batsmen. K. Barclay three for nine and O. Morris three for 11 were the principal Marist bowlers. On the second wicket, Cobden defeated Brunner by 22 runs on the first innings. Brunner scored 42, A. Gibson 16 and G. Gilbert 10 being the. double-figure scorers. R. Barlow three for two and M. Hornsby three for six were the best Cobden bowlers. Cobden made 64 runs, M. Hornsby and J. Guy, each with 13. making the best contributions. McFarlane, O’Brien and Allan each secured two wickets for Brunner.
