OPERA HOUSE —Finally to-night: “I Escaped From the- Gestapo’ and “Man From Cheyenne.” Friday: “Young Ideas” and “Someone tc Remember.”
One of the most refreshing comedies to come out of Hollywood in years is “Young Ideas,” commencing at the Opera House to-morrow. The fun begins when Mary Astor, a distinguished novelist, disappears while on a lecture tour. Her agent, Allyn Joclyn, enlists the aid of her two children, Susan Peters and Elliott Reid, in finding her. They discover the missing mother on her honeymoon, married to a professor of chemistry (Herbert Marshall) at a small university and living contentedly on Faculty Row. The kids decide Faculty Row is no place for their mother, and set about breaking up the marriage as fast as they can. With success within their grasp, Susan falls in love with young Richard Carlson, another instructor at the university, with resulting complications and subsequent disentanglement. clearing up all matters. “Someone To Remember,” which commences at the Opera House tomorrow, has a most unusual story treatment. Mabel Paige portrays the lovable character of Mrs Freeman who refuses to vacate her apartment, even when the building itself is converted into a university, as she has an iron-clad lease giving her ownership of her premises What holds her to the place is the hope that some day the irresponsible son who disappeared some 25 years before will return to her. She feels that if she moved out he might not know where to find her.

We present for your entertainment a grand musical entitled “Springtime in the Rockies.” The leading players are Betty Grable John Payne, Carmen Miranda, Harry James and Romero. Photographed in splendid technicolour, the background the world-famed Lake Louise this musical is a ma.(s of pleasure throughout. The story tells of Betty and John who break after a lovers’ tiff. John pursues her to the Rockies where after many amusing situations and misunderstandings on both sides they eventually make up in romance as well as profession. Then Carmen with Horton supply many a laugh in comedy; the music and dancing is an added attraction in this colourful presentation. Included in the programme is a short list of well-balanced and interesting supports.
