BULLER RUGBY UNION

GOOD FINANCIAL YEAR.

With a surplus of over £2OO in the year’s working, the Buller Rugby Union officially declared the season closed at the final meeting of the management committee on Saturday evening.

The president (Mr. J. P. McEnaney) said that the balance-sheet showed that the season was the most successful in the history of the union, and never before had the union been in such a sound financial position. At the commencement of the season there was a debit balance of £2O. and to finish up with a credit of £2OO was very gratifying, he added. t Mr. McEnaney, commenting on the success of the representative team in the Seddon Shield matches, said that all the games were played in a fine spoiling spirit and there was no untoward incident. The match with West Coast was the toughest, and Buller had to play all out to retain the trophy. The secretary (Mr. W. A. Craddock) said that during his long association with the Buller Rugby Union the finances had not been in a better position than they were at present. The principal source of revenue was the Seddon Shield games, which gave returns as follows: Buller v. Marlborough, £193/3/-; v. Nelson, £l7B/5/6; v. West Coast, £129. The weather was very bad foT the game with Coast and this accounted for the poor gate. Social gatherings also proved remunerative for the union, the sum of £ 129 being raised. The meeting paid a tribute to the good work done by the secretary, especially during the Seddon Shield games, and it was decided unanimously to raise his honorarium from £5O to £75.
