GERMAN SHIPS SUNK
NAVAL AIRMEN’S SUCCESS. RUGBY, October 30. Carrier-borne aircraft of the Royal Navy, operating with ships of the Home Fleet carried out further successful attacks on enemy shipping off the Norwegian coast and on shore installations on the mainland, states an Admiralty communique. During these operations which took place near Bodo, a total of six enemy ships were sunk comprising two supply ships, one medium-sized tanker, one aircraft tender, and two naval auxiliaries. In addition, a large U-boat was attacked and driven ashore in a damaged condition. A further 19 enemy vessels, including seven, large supply ships, and one medium size, were damaged lav cannon fire or bombs. An armed coaster and an armed trawler were also driven ashore. Land targets successfully attacked by naval aircraft included a U-boat depot, wireless stations, oil tanks, and shore batteries. Mines were laid in enemy waters. Five aircraft were missing but one pilot is safe.
