RUGBY FOOTBALL
LONDON, October 29. In a Rugby Union lootball match the unbeaten Wasps team beat a New ; Zealand Services team by 20 points to nine. The first half was fairly even, both sides attacking in turn. Flying-Officer G. Hewitt, and FlightLieutenant F. Grant each scored fine tries, giving the New Zealanders a one point lead at half-time. The Wasps then obtained a field goal and two unconverted tries and one converted try. The New Zealanders fought hard to overtake this lead, but the Wasps’ defence was very sound. Flying-Officer A. Haydon finally forced his way across for a try which was not converted. CRICKET. The cricket season was officially opened at Reefton on Saturday afternoon, when a practice game was played between two teams of the newly-formed Reefton Cricket Club, Old Timers v. The Colts, the lattei’ being beaten 68—39. Mr. W. G. Porter, Club president declared the season open. BOWLING. The Karoro Bowling Club officially opened its season on Saturday, when the green was declared open by the President of the Club, Mr. J. M. Bunt. The green was not playable on account of the heavy rain.
