VICTORY LOAN

BOND WAGON CONCERT At the Greymouth Town Hall, at 12.15 this afternoon, the Bond Wagon Entertainers, assisted by Miss S. Dowell and Mr. J. Duffy, presented an enjoyable concert in support of the loan campaign. The Mayor (Mr. F. A. Kitchingham), who welcomed the entertainers, stated that many people did not seem to realise there was a war on—there had been no shells, bombs, or robot planes. Greymouth’s loan target was £186,000, and only £39,000 had been raised, the remainder having to be found with only 24 days to go, and Mr. Kitchingham 'appealed to citizens to “back the attack.”

Mr. O’Brien, M.P., said that in a few months victory would be celebrated in Europe, but only five years ago we in’New Zealand were rushing to build air raid shelters. There was £240,000,000 in banks in the Dominion, and there should be no difficulty in subscribing the loan in full. On behalf of the directors of the “Grey Paver Argus” Co., he handed .the Mayor a cheque for £5OO towards the loan. Returning thanks to the performers. Mr. F. F. Boustridge appealed to all members of the community to support the loan to the utmost. If they wanted the boys to reach Berlin, they must pay their way, giving them "a first-class passage. He announced that Mr. and Mrs. D. Dowell had taken £lOOO worth of Victory Bonds. The West Coast Sawmillers’ Association has subscribed £5OO to the Loan.
