Mr. F. G. Clark, District Traffic Manager, and Mr. C. E. Vigers, Christchurch, are visiting Greymouth on railways business.

A London cablegram stated it was learned in Belgian circles in London that King Leopold of Belgium has been sent to Germany.

Mr. L. O. Tyrrell, District Engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department, and Mr. R. F. Wilson, Telegraph Engineer, both of Christchurch, are visiting Greymouth. . •'

Mr. N. G. P. Fagerlund, who has been discharged from Army service after being in the Middle East, will resume duty in the mechanicians’ branch of the Chief Post Office, Greymouth, on June 22.

Miss E. M. F. Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hill, Dobson, and formerly of the staff of the Chief Post Office, Greymouth, who has been serving with the W.A.A.C. in the Middle East for a considerable period, returned home, to-day.

Amonff the New Zealanders mentioned as participating in the invasion operations is Sub-Lieutenant Tv Sutton, who before proceeding overseas was a member of the draughting branch of the Public Works Depaitment at Greymouth.

Th a funeral of the late Mr John Russell Sharp, of Seven Mile Road, Runanga, took place at the Karoro Cemetery, yesterday afternoon, being largely attended. The services at the residence and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. A. J. Templeton. Wor. Bro. D. Mclvor conducted a Masonic service.

Mr. D. Rodgers, Locomotive Foreman at Greymouth, has received advice of his promotion to the position of Locomotive Inspector at Wellington, and will leave shortly to take up his new appointment. Mr. Rodgers, who came to Greymouth three years ago from Dunedin, will be succeeded bv Mr. M. Sweetman, of Wellington, who has arrived at Greymouth.

A London cablegram announced ihat a former world champion billiards player, H. W. Stevenson, has died at the age of 69. He held the championshio for three years,* up to 1911, and was the first British player to make a break of 1000 after the spot stroke had been abolished. He- was a great exponent ot top-of-the-table play. He visited New Zealand yearsago, in the course of a world tour.

The appointment of Father Victor Foley, S.M., of Suva, as Vicar Apostolic of Fiji, is announced. He succeeds the late Bishop Nicolaus. The Bishop-elect was born near Folkestone. Kent in 1909, and educated at St. Mary’s College, Dundalk. He gained the B.Sc. at University College, Dublin, and spent his novitiate at Lyons, in France, and Differ!, in Belgium. He was ordained at Plymouth in. June. 1936. and arrived at Suva m January. 1937. He visited Auckland on a health trip this year.
