CHAPLIN CASE NEW YORK, May 15. In Los Angeles, Judge O’Connor :• dismissed an indictment charging Charlie Chaplin and others with conspiracy to deprive Joan Barry of her civil rights. United States Attorney .Carr said that he had received written instructions from Washington to request the dismissal. The California Supreme Court upheld the decisions of two lower Courts which refused to dismiss the paternity suit brought against Chaplin in the name of Joan Barry s baby. The Associated Press points out that the ruling paeans that the paternity suit must'be tried on its merits. PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS. LONDON, Mas; 17. The worst scourge of locusts in living memory threatens the already difficult food situation in North Africa, says the “Daily Express” Algiers correspondent. Wide areas of vegetatation extending to the Algerian coast are vanishing under the swarm. Three New York doctors developed a new technique for repairing severed arteries by bridging then! with metal-closed veins, taken from cadavers.
