fOUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.! . _ HOKITIKA, May 17. The annual meeting of the Hokitika Red Cross Society was held in the County Chambers last evening, About 20 members were present and in the absence of the Chairman, Mr. F. D. Gillespie, Mr. P. R. Whitford presided. The Treasurer, Mr. A. C. Armstrong read the balance sheet which showed a credit balance of £49/6/6. The sum of £9O/10/3 had been raised for the Sick and Wounded Fund and £3B/15/- had been paid to Wellington as the district quota. The total raised during the year amounted to £l7O. The report of the Superintendant, the V.A.. Detachment and the Junior Red Cross were adopted. The offer of Mr. VZ. Dini to organise an entertainment in aid of the society’s funds was accepted with thanks. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. A. R. Elcock; Chairman, Mr. F. D. Gillespie; Vice-Chairman, ■ Mr. 11. W. R. Sweney. Secretary, Mrs. Z. Harrison; Treasurer, Mr. A. C. Armstrong; Auditor, Mr. L. J. Salvi- : gny; Committee, Mesdames Reeves, Crough, Moore, Cooper, Ingram, Walters, Stevens, Whitford, Salvigny, Paterson, Messrs Whitford, Stevens, R. Cooper and S. King. Mrs. Stevens was appointed delegates to the V.A.D. Advisory Committee.. Mrs. Reeves was appointed delegate to the V.A.D. Salvigny was appointed organiser of the Junior Red Cross. The Chairman, Executive and Treasurer were elected as an executive committee. Members fees were fixed at 2/6 and class fees at 2/6. Accounts amounting to £5/2/4 were passed for payment. It was decided to send letters of thanks to Mrs. Pratt for her work in connection with the nutrition classes, .5 Mrs, Langford, Mr. Gillespie and Mr. Cooper for assistance with transport and to the R.S.A. and Westland County Council for the use of their rooms’ •
